HOME EXCERPT DESCRIPTION and INTERVIEW CONTENT SAMPLE RELEASE
Voices: Kids of Divorce is an on-going documentary project about divorce from a child’s perspective. We are exploring the current culture of Divorce and Blended Families. We are interviewing children and young adults ages 6- 25 that have been at some point during their lives impacted directly by divorce.
The project is inspired by Dr. David Royko’s book “Voices of Children of Divorce,” Golden Books/ New York 1999.
Dr. Royko, a clinical psychologist, is a consultant on the project. He is a respected advocate for the consideration of a child’s perspective during the divorce process.
Children and young adults interviewed are asked questions similar to those discussed in
Dr. Royko’s book.
For example:
Why did the divorce happen?
What did the divorce look like?
Was the divorce your fault?
Are you in the middle?
Does it get better?
What advice can you give to other children of divorce?
The interviews style is designed to solicit feelings more than facts, honest impressions and helpful suggestions. Interview subjects will not be identified by name. All subjects are interviewed at a time and place of their convenience and receive a small stipend. All subjects must sign a release and if a minor, the release must be signed by a parent or legal guardian.
Our intention is for Voices: Kids of Divorce to be a reflection of the current culture of divorce from a child’s point of view. We hope that through identification, children and parents can derive helpful insight. The project is planned as a tool for fostering resiliency in children and for encouraging better parent/parent and parent/child communication. Our goal is to help build stronger families no matter what they look like.
